Champions League last 16 draw: Wenger gets his wish as Mourinho gets his biggest test

Monday, December 15, 2014,The draw for the Champions League knock out phase has lined a number of mouth watering clashes.

Prior to the draw, Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, had revealed he hoped to avoid either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich and his prayers were answered as the Gunners were drawn with AS Monaco.

Wenger told ITV: “We’ve never had an easy ride.

“I don’t think many teams want Madrid. We don’t want Bayern Munich and I’m sure they don’t want us.”

When asked about the possibility of facing his former club Monaco, Wenger added: “I’m not against it at all because it would be a visit to my first home there. Of course I would love to go there.”

This is a special draw as Wenger managed Monaco for seven years, during which he guided them to a Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France.

PSG are arguably the most difficult side that Chelsea could have drawn. The two sides met in the quarter-finals last year and it was the  Blues that sneaked through thanks to a very late Demba Ba goal.

As for Man City, Barcelona would have been one of the last teams that they would have wanted to face as Barca dumped the Premier League champions out at the same stage of the tournament last season.

The other tie that really catches the eye is Juventus vs. Dortmund, mainly because it’s a repeat of the 1997 final.
