Stray bullet kills nursing mother and her baby

TRAGEDY struck in Okoboh community in the Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State when a nursing mother and her child were killed in a cross fire between rival cult groups.

The incident happened on Monday.

It was gathered that the two cult groups, identified as Greenlanders and Icelanders, had engaged one another in a fierce gun battle, and the victims were hit by stray bullets and died on the spot.

The shooting by the cult groups, which began at about 8.30pm lasted for about six hours as indigenes of Okoboh community fled into nearby bushes.

A source in Okoboh said the cult group had their camps in Okoboh and Owere-Owere communities in the Emughan clan, a situation that made it possible for both of them to engage each other in a clash of supremacy.

“It happened in the night. The Icelanders and the Greenlanders engaged one another in a clash of supremacy."

“A woman leader in one of the political parties died."

“A stray bullet also killed her baby,” the eyewitness added.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, explained that though he was aware of the matter, he had not received any official brief on it.
