Prison Break!! Gunmen Free Over 300 Inmates From Ado-Ekiti Prison

Over 300 inmates of the Ado Ekiti Prison escaped on Sunday night after an attack on the facility by unknown gunmen.

The Comptroller of Prison, Kehinde Fadipe, who confirmed the attack, said the attackers used dynamite to break the main entrance to the prison.

He added that some of the escaped inmate have been rearrested.

“We were attacked from outside and not from within. They came massively with different weapons."

“We have been here since yesterday 11:00 pm till this morning. Our men are out there trying to recapture some of them. There was no casualty and the motive of those that came will come to light later,” he said.

Meanwhile , the security men did not allow journalists to take shots of the affected side of the building within the Ado Ekiti prison premises.

In early November, a prison in Kogi State was attacked with over 120 inmates freed.

The prisoners had escaped from the jail after gunmen armed with grenades and heavy fire arms attacked the Nigeria Federal Prison in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, Nigeria’s north central region, setting over 140 inmates free.

Residents of the state said they heard gunshots and explosions at about 10:00pm on November 2.

Both attacks happened on a Sunday night and this should be a source of concern for security agencies in Nigeria to guard against a recurrence.
